With Gatwick Airport welcoming 45 million passengers through its doors each year, BA wanted a film to be displayed on its 5 metre wide screen at the airport's South Terminal. The aim was to help guide travellers of all ages through the check-in procedure, without the use of sound.
Our storyboard frames adopted a different aspect ratio for this project. Most productions are shot using a 16:9 ratio, however for this film we had to abide to the ultra-wide format of the airport's 5 metre terminal check-in screen.
Due to the unique size and ratio of the 5 metre BA terminal screen, we had to approach the film slightly differently, creating much wider sets than we are used to. It also made the animatic an essential part of blocking out movements for this unfamiliar format.
There were so many small paper elements that went into this British Airways paper-craft animation. Each piece was laser-cut and meticulously stuck together by our team of model-makers, using scalpels, tweezers and syringes filled with glue.
