Dan Richards Dec 01, 2021 Scroll to read in 5 minutes

Sunny summers aren't really guaranteed these days, so one of the best ways to spend your rainy (or any other!) days is by sitting back and watching good quality animation story telling. That’s why the team here at our animation studio have banded together to come up with a list of 10 animated shows that you can watch on Netflix whilst self-isolating. Our aim is to let you know about some animation that you may not necessarily have heard of and to give you as much variation as possible to keep you entertained!

WARNING: THIS IS NOT DISNEY+ SO PLEASE DON’T SIT LITTLE TIMMY DOWN TO WATCH LOVE, DEATH AND ROBOTS…

Animated Series To Watch Netflix 02

1. Bojack Horseman

Starting with a popular yet still great 2D animated show, BoJack Horseman. The series stars BoJack, an out of his prime ex-sitcom actor who finds himself trying to navigate the savage world of Hollywood. What starts out as a fairly goofy and lightweight show quickly becomes a stark look at what fame can do to a person and the people around them. With an amazing cast and a unique presentation, this show is one to watch if you haven’t already.

2. Aggretsuko

From the creators of Hello Kitty (we know how that sounds, stay with us) comes Aggretsuko, a show about being stuck in a dead-end job and the struggles of every day. The title character works for a huge corporation in Tokyo who is quiet and mild mannered by day, but by night vents her frustrations through heavy metal karaoke. There are so many relatable moments in this show its unreal, all while being presented through the filter of cute “Hello Kitty” style characters. Brilliant style and relatable characters make this show one of a kind.

3. Love, Death & Robots

Now for something a bit more full on. Love, Death and Robots is an anthology series, with each episode centring around one, if not all of the points in the show’s title. This series is a showcase for so many different styles of animation in both 2D and 3D and an adrenaline fuel ride throughout. Be warned though, those of you that are squeamish may want to watch through their fingers.

4. Devilman Crybaby

Sticking to the theme of high-octane and gory animation, Devilman follows the story of Akira, a small and fragile teenager who is possessed by a Devil, transforming him into a superhuman with the ability to transform into demon form. For many this bonkers description alone is enough to make people at least interested in checking this out. From start to finish this show is a thrill ride, presented with some of the most unique and colourful animation out there.

5. Little Witch Academia

Something a bit more relaxing but equally as beautiful. The amazing Studio Trigger created this series based off a short feature they released some years back. Chronicling the day to day lives of witches in training, this show is a powerhouse of bombastic and over the top 2D animation. The opening titles alone perfectly convey the entire tone of the show. Comforting, cute and exciting, this is one to watch if you just need to relax and have fun.

6. Archer

Feel like watching a show where every character is completely despicable? Look no further than Archer. This popular series revolves around the titular Archer and his life working as a spy under his own mother, who happens to be the head of the whole spy organisation. Completely dry and raunchy comedy, revolving around the high-class life of spies. What’s not to like? All 10 seasons of this show are available now on Netflix so if there was ever a time to binge this show, it’s now.

7. Buddy Thunderstruck

We couldn’t make an animated shows list without mentioning at least one stop-motion animation. Buddy Thunderstruck comes from the team behind Robot Chicken and features the same over the top and cartoony approach to stop-motion. The plot is very simple, with Buddy going on adventures in his racing truck with his weasel sidekick. This show is very much made for kids, but still has so many moments that we feel everyone can enjoy.

8. Carole and Tuesday

For a much slower and relaxed show, Carole and Tuesday is the way to go. Two girls begin a life changing career in music in a science fiction future where all mainstream music is written by Artificial Intelligence. Although a beautiful show, the standout for this series is its soundtrack. Each episode features at least one new song, covering every genre and style you can think of. If you’re a fan of seeing people passionate about music singing their hearts out, give this series a go.

9. F is for Family

F is for Family is a wonderful adult animated comedy show, produced and co-written by comedian Bill Burr. It's a wonderfully funny yet realistic depiction of 1980's Americana that has real heart in how it depicts its characters. A must watch!

10. Castlevania

We’re ending this list on a heavy hitter. This series has its roots in the classic NES game and chronicles the journey of Simon Belmont as he battles his way through Castlevania in order to defeat the Vampire Count Dracula. Known now for its gruesome but well-choreographed fight scenes, the show has just released its third series so now is the perfect time to start from the beginning of it all.

So there you are! Hopefully this list has exposed you to some great animated shows that you may not have known about on Netflix!
